Amazing Tips to Write Blog Description (With Examples)

Few things are shown in a standard Google search result list. Title and description act as the decision-making point for the visitors. The most crucial factor for the visitor’s click is the Title, and after that description is the second most important one.

Here in this post, I will focus on the second one, “description,” so let us start our journey in learning about blog description.
What is a Blog Description?
A blog description is the overall summary of your blog post. It appears below the Title in the Google search results. When a user searches on Google, they will see the website’s title, description and link in the search result list.
There are two types of blog descriptions.
From an SEO perspective, both types of description are essential. If you are an SEO expert, “Meta description” is the right word.
Blog meta description is present on the website’s header; the code looks like the image below.

A meta description tells the search engine about the summary of the blog and its posts. Adding this summary to your blog will give your blog visitors a clear-cut idea about the type of content they will be consuming.
Importance of Blog Description
The blog description is the mirror of your entire content. It tells visitors about what they will get in the full content. When a user enters a query in the search engine, they have some purpose for the query. The goal can be to grab information, to buy some, etc. these can be the possibilities.
When the query is executed other than the Title, a unique, catchy and relevant description will make you stand out in the list.
You lose website clicks if you are a newbie and leave the description unfilled.
Benefits of Blog Description
There are several benefits of adding descriptions on posts, pages, categories, etc.

How to Write a Blog Description in WordPress?
Writing a blog description for the homepage is necessary. If you forget to update the blog description, WordPress has a default description for the blog.
The Default WordPress description is the website tagline “Just another WordPress site.”

Most bloggers use the SEO Yoast plugin. This plugin allows you to add a meta description of the homepage and all the pages that will appear below the homepage link in the search results.

Navigate to the search appearance section of the Yoast SEO plugin. Yoast plugin will take you directly to the editor of your blog page.
Scroll down to the bottom to see the options offered by the Yoast plugin.

Add your SEO title and blog meta description in the boxes. The Google search preview will also show how it will look in the Google search results (Desktop and mobile appearance).
If you are not using any SEO plugin, then follow the below steps to update the blog homepage description:
- Click on the setting from the left sidebar
- Go to “General”
- Add your blog description in the tagline.

How to Write A Blog Post Description In WordPress?
Updating the meta description of an individual post is very easy if you are using Yoast SEO plugin.
- Create a new post or open the existing post.
- Scroll down to the bottom.
- Locate meta title and description box
- Update your optimised blog description
- Publish or Update
If you do not favour using an SEO plugin, adding meta descriptions on individual blog posts is tricky. You will have to add code in your functions.php file to create a custom field for meta descriptions. Here I will not tell you the complete steps because it will become quite complicated, and most bloggers use SEO plugins.
Note:
Do not get confused with the blog description and blog post description. As explained earlier, a blog description is your main blog page meta description, whereas a blog post description is the individual post meta description.
What Google Will Display In Search Results?
Either you will fill it out or leave it to fill the meta description.
Case 1: If you fill it with the optimised keywords, there are chances of high CTR. The most relevant description display in search results will be the custom meta description (mostly). It can also be switched from the piece of text, which can be taken within the content.

Case 2: If it is left blank, you will lose the chance of several things, such as traffic, keyword ranking, etc. In this case, search engines will grab descriptions from the content body according to the user query. Not adding meta descriptions in the blog or posts does not mean Google will show blank in the search results.

Do not leave the meta description field blank because adding an optimised description increases the chances of top ranking in search results.
